This piece is the integration of new methods and materials developed by Creators of Objects using a mix of resin and recycled glass beads. As well as contributing aesthetic qualities of sparkle, texture, and muted transparency, the glass bead adds to the structural integrity of the piece and reduces the requirement for
virgin material. Beneath the thick poured resin top, the pillowy shape of the base is derived from a hand carved block. “The tapered hand shaped profile is something we’ve wanted to explore for a while, to have a somewhat informal and organic feel,” de Swaaf explains. “We wanted to pull the original casting from the mold and then spend time shaping and finishing by eye rather than with precision calipers.”
