Christopher Gentner, the creative and productive force behind his Chicago studio, Gentner Design, installs a breadth of his collectable design, from small tables that swing from the ceiling, to wonderful sketches in both ink and metal. Gentner’s material exploration is the main source of energy in his work. In line with his signature sculptural language, silicone tubes burst out of stools, tooling leather softly drapes over metal armatures, and hand applied pewter on steel creates rich lunar landscapes. Gentner is his own designer, engineer, and fabricator, carefully crafting every piece to both function well and delight.
Gentner graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Arts with a BFA in metal smithing, then apprenticed with famed American sculptor Richard Hunt in Chicago. Ten years ago he launched his first designs under the Gentner Design label. Since then, Gentner’s work has been shown in galleries and in homes internationally.
