Manon Steyaert is an artist working at the intersection of painting and sculpture. Using non-traditional materials including silicone, latex and cellophane, Steyaert is able to create paintings that act as sculpture and vice-versa.
Wanting to originally work in fashion, Steyaert finds inspiration from fabrics and their ability to create forms. She draws parallels between fabric on the body and canvas on a stretcher, exploring the relationships of form and structure in an endeavor to create materials that stand on their own “feet.”
